Am I ready for my driving test? Ten questions
Ten questions, two minutes, no right answers to guess. The score is set against the things DVSA says show a learner is ready, and it is not a verdict: your instructor gives that.
Learners who are not ready sit the test anyway more often than they should, because the date arrived. Learners who are ready wait months for a date they could have passed on. This check is for finding out which one you are, before the date decides for you.

Questions people ask
How do I know if I am ready for my driving test?
DVSA's own list: you can drive consistently without prompts from your instructor, you have passed a mock test under test conditions, you have driven on different kinds of road and in different conditions, you know the Highway Code and the show me, tell me questions, and your instructor agrees. An honest instructor saying "not yet" is the most reliable sign of all.
How many hours of lessons do you need to pass?
The often-quoted averages are around 45 hours of professional lessons plus about 20 hours of private practice, with a very wide spread either side. Hours are a weak guide on their own; what you can do without help is a better one.
What if I am not ready and my test is soon?
You can move the test yourself on GOV.UK without losing the fee as long as there are at least ten clear working days before it, but the new date will be at the back of the queue. The other way is a swap with a learner at your centre who wants an earlier date: you take their later date, they take yours, both keep their fee, and DVSA does the exchange on the phone.

Is your test on the right date?
Months to wait for a date you are ready for, or a date that comes before you are? A swap with a learner who wants the opposite moves both of you, and DVSA does it over the phone. Tell us where your test is and which way you want to move, and we email you when a learner who could swap with you joins. Your email is never shown to anyone.
